House Chair Application part two

  1. What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a good house chair?

I think I am a well organised, calm, and rational person- I think I would be able to handle most problems in a fair, impartial way. I am willing to discuss anything with an open mind, and I do not believe that I know all the answers nor do I believe that I am always right- far from it!

I also have a respect for other people and have a deep desire to see all people succeed in their goals, and I have a great interest in everyone’s work here on campus. I think that will come across in my interactions with people, and encourage them to seek me out if they need assistance or just to get more involved with the house.

  2. As a House Chair, how does your role contribute to the greater College community?

I think that House Chairs are some of the most visible peer assistants on campus, and are the main liaisons between Student Life, SEPC, Student Council, and the rest of the campus. I am interested in getting more involved with the campus as a whole, and I feel that I would be successful in communicating information and in helping the House Chair committee and the campus as a whole become more positive and productive.

  3. Please describe your current house community, (the character of your house and any current house policies). How do you fit into that community and how would you serve as a representative of your community?

Franklin is an elusive and quiet community. The house as a whole is independent and not involved with the community, and tends to be shy or anti-social. Quiet is important to house members, whom tend to be older students that are focused on their work. There also seems to be a sense of apathy regarding the house and the community, or perhaps there is a sense of a limited number of options to be involved. While I do enjoy the preservation of quiet, and of privacy, I also have a desire to improve life on campus, even regarding things that I am not personally interested. I do hope that I could encourage and inspire people to get more involved in coffee hour and perhaps even the community.
