Statement: I would like to serve the Bennington community as a member of Judicial in order to assist in the development of a discussion of the existing rules and standards of the college, and to assure that personal accountability and fairness continues to be the standard by which we measure ourselves.
- Why do you want to become a member of the Judicial Committee?
I feel that the freedom we now have will only continue to be viable with active student involvement. I believe that the Bennington community depends to an unusual degree upon voluntary co-operation, and I wish to assist in the disciplinary body of the community as a chance to continue to improve the community as a whole.
- What qualities and/or skills would you contribute as a member of the Judicial Committee?
I believe I am a fair person that holds herself personally accountable for all of her actions, and holds others to an equal standard. It is my hope that I could be effective in assisting the Judicial Committee in encouraging the student body to hold themselves personally accountable and to have an active ongoing discussion of what it means to be a self-governing campus.
- What experiences have you had that have prepared you for this responsibility?
While a director of a large staff in various corporations, I feel that I have amassed some experience in mediation, legislation and in being progressive and fair, and I feel that I would be an asset in a situation that requires fairness and discussion.
- Describe your ability to work within a group.
I feel that I work in groups very well when they are organised and the majority of the group is dedicated to the task. I am very dedicated to the development of community and I am always willing to discuss and develop a group or the community as a whole.
- Describe your level of responsibility
I do not really understand this question, so I will address it in terms of “how responsible to you want to be in the Judicial Committee.” I am not clear on what my level of responsibility could be, but I would intend on being as involved as I could be and still be academically successful.
- What do you feel would the biggest challenge you would face by being on the Judicial Committee?
My biggest challenge I think would be in understanding the level of personal accountability that students should be held accountable for and being able to constantly question and discuss the apparent discrepancy between adult privileges wanted, and the occasional childish acts that may result.
